A geographic information system (GIS) is commonly used to present a geographical representation of data for informing decision making by spatial analysis. A GIS solution is simply the merging of cartography, statistical information and database technologies, which allows a user or organization to query data and view the results in a geospatial context. Many GIS solutions and data models are designed specific to organizational needs and as such allows GIS to be used in many industry or government environments.
