Perfect 3D Modelling

Perfect 3D Modelling

3D Laser Scanning & Accurate Modelling

Surtech provides 3D Laser Scanning and Modelling services globally to clients who require solutions for the accurate capture and documentation of their existing facilities.

Utilizing high speed/resolution 3D laser scanners, together with specialized processing software (LFM Suite, PDMS, AutoCAD, SmartPlant & MicroStation), we can measure complex facilities or structures in high detail and deliver 3D digital point or solid CAD model data sets. With a measuring rate of >500,000 points per second, our laser scanners rapidly provide a three-dimensional representation of the scanned surfaces with high density measurements taken over the visible surfaces of the target structures. The resultant data sets are often referred to as three-dimensional point clouds (PCD’s), which can be delivered to the owner/engineers utilizing their preferred design or engineering software package, such as PDMS or SmartPlant3D.

Individual laser scans taken from different positions can be consolidated to generate dimensionally accurate digital models of a complete plant, building or any solid object. Depending on the methods used and the work processes employed in the field, overall accuracy can be within 5 millimeters.

Because 3D Laser Scanning is carried out by way of non-contact geometric measurements and existing access footways and platforms are predominantly utilized, then it presents a distinct safety improvement compared to alternate methodologies such as field measuring using tape measures for compilation of as-built information.

Accurate Benefits of 3D Laser Scanning

  • Reduce - site visits, rework, design times
  • Eliminate hotwork and rework - risk and costs associated with hotwork, construction rework, and field fit-up welds greatly reduced.
  • Safety - eliminates safety hazards of traditional field data capture and up to date facility documentation to facilitate maintenance.
  • Reduced Project Risk - make confident decisions based on having the best available current information.
  • Quicker deliverables - greatly reduced project start-up time.
  • Completeness - accurate and detailed information improves engineering designs.
  • Direct digital as-built data - designers now work with 3D computer models, digital 3D as-built data is more natural to their workflow.
  • Designing directly in point clouds - rapidly gaining wide acceptance and developing as a very cost effective work process by reducing the work of manipulating data into 3D models.
  • Clash Detection - compare design with as-built to eliminate interferences.
  • Only model what is needed for the immediate job - as long as an object is contained within the scan database it can be modelled at any future time.
